Knee Pain? Chat with our Physical Therapist

Summer + knee pain go together like campfires + marshmallows

The days are long, the miles are up and the rest days are down.  For a lot of us summer means a huge increase in activity because we live in Colorado, the daylight is abundant and there’s so much to do.

If you’ve got an aching knee that talks to you with every pedal stroke, trail step, pavement contact, dance move or kick, don’t ignore it.  We have a lot of awesome left in this season.  Address the issue now so you can carry on with everything you do for fun.

For the month of July, our physical therapist, Pamela, is offering free 15 min chats to address the little things that might be creeping up and holding you back.

With over 12 years of experience as a PT (including a life long relationship with endurance endeavors + everything that entails), Pamela is a tremendous resource to talk about what might be going on with knees and your body.  Use her as a resource. Get her on your team so that you can keep doing what you love with more comfort.

New Physical Therapist at Koa Fit

Help us welcome Pamela Robichaud, DPT to our Koa Fit team.  Pamela has just returned to Boulder after a 14-month cross-country trip with her husband and dog all snuggled up in their van (read more about the Roaming Robos here).  We are so excited to offer this service to our clients and to have her expertise at our finger tips!

Pamela’s strengths include but are not limited to the following: Low Back, Ankle Sprains, Foot Pain, Knee Injuries, Chronic Pain, Balance & Vestibular Disorders, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Brain Injury & Concussion. Pamela is LSVT BIG certified for treatment of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.  Furthermore, Pamela is an RRCA certified running coach and makes custom foot orthotics. 5th Annual Stand Up Paddleboarding with Koa Fit

July 14th, 8am-10am – Boulder Reservoir

This will be our 5th year out on the water with Rocky Mountain Paddleboards.  Join the Koa Fit crew on July 14th out at the Boulder Reservoir for some Stand Up Paddleboarding as part of our Be Balanced Community Series. Enjoy the early morning light and the calm water as you get a great core and balance workout. Paddleboarding is easy to learn and fun. Explore the Reservoir in a completely different and rewarding way.

Self-Care Workshop – Neck and Shoulders

Be Balanced Community Event

stiff neckDo you have a stiff neck? Do your shoulders bother you while you sit at work? Are you chronically pulling at your neck and shoulders trying to get them to stretch or crack? Learn how to take care of these daily aches and pains while also preventing future injuries to your cervical spine, rotator cuff, and thoracic spine. Siri Schubet-Nicolella will give you the tools so you can be proactive about your pain and give your body the tender loving care it needs.

What you will learn:

  • Myofascial Release techniques for the neck and shoulders
  • Alignment exercises
  • Easy, at-home exercises to alleviate your tight neck
  • Postural strengthening for your upper torso

Foam Roller Class

Join us Thursday, September 15th at 5:30pm for an hour of foam rolling as part of our Be Balanced Community Series.  The roller has had many nicknames including “roller of death”, “torture machine”, and “devil roller”.  We are hoping you fall a little more in love with your roller when you see the diversity it can bring to your home program.  We will spend an hour showing you how to use your full size foam roller (6×36) to relieve aches and pains, stretch out your body, and strengthen your core.

Please bring a full size roller, a mat, and comfortable clothes to this free class.

Koa Fit Lunch Break Hike

Sunrise FlatironsFriday, September 18th at 12pm

Get out of the office on a gorgeous afternoon and join us for a beautiful hike at Chautauqua. We will meet in the Chautauqua parking lot, at the Baseline Trail trailhead. We will follow Baseline Trail to the Amphitheater Trail and then come back down through Gregory Canyon via the bottom of the Saddle Rock Trail. This should take about an hour for the full trip.

Strong Balance SUP

Strong Balance SUPJoin us on Friday, August 14th for a very special Strong Balance Class out at the Boulder Reservoir on the paddleboards.  We will have regular 7:30am class, but please arrive at 7:15am to get your board, paddle, and yourself in the water.  It should be a fun morning of balancing, strengthening, and I am sure we will all get wet at some point.  Space is limited so please register early.

Free Strength Training Circuit Class

Thursday, March 5th at 6:45am

Koa WeightsJoin Tim Marriott from Venn Performance for this hour-long circuit class.  The focus of this class is functional strength to help keep your body balanced and injury-free.  This class is built as a complimentary, cross-training workout to outdoor activities such as skiing, cycling, and running.  It is a great, full-body workout that will help build strength, stamina, and cardio.
